St Bartholomew's Hospital

The brief

Independent access scaffold supporting system temporary roof with internal birdcages

Overview

This project required comprehensive planning and precise execution to ensure safe and efficient access for maintenance and restoration works whilst minimising disruption to hospital operations. An internal birdcage to be installed within the Great Hall, spanning from front to back beams. This approach is necessary due to restrictions on floor loading, as this section of the building holds Grade I listed status.

The challenges we faced

Working in a live hospital enviroment and the sensitivity of working in direct proximity of Maggies cancer ward.

Interesting facts about the project

Barts has survived major historical events including the Great Fire of London, both World Wars and centuries of redevelopment.

Outcome

This historic building has now been fully restored internally and externally, whilst preserving its original character.
